Our Maverick Surf Dog® youth tee is a favorite here at the shop. The kids tee comes in fun colors and features original art from artist Samantha Vingo, who once worked at our surf shop. What makes this art special? It features Maverick, the dog that Mavericks Beach is named for, looking out from the beach at the lagoon, the rocks and reef, and, in the distance, the massive waves. Maverick was known to swim out to his owner and friends who would surf in the lagoon inside the rocks -- a reef break where Jeff Clark also learned to surf thanks to his little league coach who would take the kids there. Maverick the dog eventually would remain on leash on the beach, and thus the beach was known as Maverick's Beach back in the 1960s. The story has been told many times, but this artwork holds a special place in our hearts here at the shop.
